is it fear?  is it… ummm — fear?  i can’t think of any other reasons – so, i’m going with fear.

• maybe someone will read;
• maybe lots of someones will read.

foolishnotions has sat unattended bearing the lame header, definition in progress for a looong time.  i stopped writing for whatever reasons but, i’ve come to find out i need to write. i need to write… for me. it’s what i do. and, i suspect the content i feared had gone so completely askew was less an issue of focus and more of purpose.  i stopped being true to me.

so, i’m back – for love of creativity and expression.  which means i’m not gonna attempt the least little bit of focus or consistency.  so, if you’re a church leader or a triathlete, a designer, photographer, poet or lover of those people you live with (…that’s your family…)  you may find something here to relate to…

and, no – i will not use proper capitalization.  the shift key slows me down and capital letters are boring. lowercase letters are simply more beautiful.

and, i really, realllly, overuse the word really.   you should really get used to that.

and, i promise i’m gonna try to stop starting my sentences with conjunctions now, because it drives me nuts.

ok… that is so stinkin’ cool.

i stumbled on an old recipe i haven’t made in ages.  it’s one of my favorites and very inexpensive to make.  i thought i’d share it in case anyone needs any ideas.

perfect spaghetti with tomato sauce
2 tbsp. plus 1/4 tspn. salt
1 1/2 lbs. of baby pear tomatoes
8 oz. whole wheat spaghetti
4 tbsp. evoo
4 cloves garlic minced (or pressed)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cu fresh basil leaves loosely packed and torn

(note:  this recipe really is best with the real live fresh ingredients.  you can substitute canned italian plum tomatoes and dried basil if it’s all you have, but if you can, take the time to get the real stuff.  you won’t need much of it – it’s still an inexpensive meal with all the fresh ingredients.)

the recipe i use says to blanch and peel the tomatoes, but i never have.  i just seed them and really cut them up fine.

in a skillet, heat up the evoo.  add the garlic and simmer until golden (bout 30 sec.).  add red pepper flakes and remaining 1/4 tsp. salt.  increase heat to high and add tomatoes.  heat them through while crushing them into the garlic, pepperflakes and evoo with the back of a spoon.  the texture you’re going for is super mashed up tomatoes….not sauce.   if it gets too dry you can add a little more evoo or some water from your pasta pot.

drain your whole wheat spaghetti noodles when al dente.  then just toss the tomato sauce into the pasta.

not your typical spaghetti…it’s so, so good.

i drove up under the portico at church to be greeted by this little fella. he was right out in the street and didn’t even budge at the sight of my chevy blazer barreling through. so, i got out to take a look.

he let me get closer, and closer and closer…. i took this pic with my iphone from about 2 feet away! he’s got a tag on his foot. i wonder what he is. i tried to find one like him online but didn’t see anything even close.

ok. this might be old news as evidently it was a superbowl commercial. but i saw this for the first time last week and was cracking up… brilliant!

then about two minutes later i saw this excessively lame commercial for an equally lame product. wow – so bad.  when i see stuff like this i always wonder about the creative meeting that was going so horribly bad that when someone said, “ooo… i have an idea”, everyone jumped on board.  haha.

the week the lights were being installed i cut my fingers at least a dozen times.  i thought my index finger might come completely off before it was over.  after my 3rd or 4th trip to the first aid kit everyone started joking that i needed to wear thimbles to protect my fingers.

so, it’s tech week.  and jennifer just walked into my office and plopped these down on my desk.

i love these people.
