new pix from iraq

Jesse in Iraq

My brother, Jesse just posted some pix from Iraq. Ha - looks like all that time he spent out back shooting squirrels with that BB Gun wasn’t for naught after all. (And, it’s true - squirrels do taste like chicken).

Wow - my brother the hero. He looks so cool! Love you, Jes - keep your head down!

mission accomplished

cam and shark

Cam loves the beach once again.  It took a lot of sweet talking to get him to give it a whirl after it having given him a whirl last summer, but he stuck it out.  My winning convincer - “C’mon Cam, who knows fun like your Mom????”   To which he muttered reluctantly, “Alright, you do,” and got up to put on his swim trunks.  Now he is a self proclaimed, how did he say it?… oh, yes -  an “extreme wave boogie boarder”.  YES!!!!  Mission accomplished. I am a great mother- - and yes, I definitely do know how to have fun!  Who wouldn’t with a son like Cam.  :-)

super absorbent brain, please

Yes, I actually asked God for this…just a second ago. That - and widened pathways for information to travel from outside my brain to inside. Sometimes I feel like there is a very large a fine holed colander over my brain. The more I keep dumping stuff in the slower it trickles through.

I have just finished a long stint of impressive productivity. It was challenging, exhilarating, thought provoking, inspiring and tiring. I love the fast lane and live a majority of my life there, but sometimes find myself missing important stuff as I go speeding by. Finding the balance for me is enormously difficult. It’s God’s fault really. He did way to good a job filling me with vision and passion. There is so much ahead, just within finger’s reach…and after that something better….and after that - - ooo! oooo - you get the point.

This past week I have taken stock of the past year. I am utterly amazed at where and by what paths God has taken me in just such a short time. It has flown by. I have also been laying out my calendar for the coming year and find myself even more amazed at what’s ahead. New goals, new vision… It’s exciting - and a little overwhelming. But I am enthused by the dream of what I will be finding next year at this time as I look over the events and lessons learned and taking stock once again. I don’t ever want to stop pushing forward, pressing in to God’s heart, challenging the limits of my purpose. My goal - to someday truly impress my Heavenly Father - to shock his socks off.

Which brings me to a thought provoking rabbit trail I’ve been meaning to blog about for a while.

I am absolutely fascinated with free will - I ponder it often. Do you think we can surprise God? When God asked Satan had he considered His servant Job, do you think God omnisciently knew that Job would pass any test Satan would throw at him? And if so, Satan must have been well acquainted with God’s intimate knowledge of every fine detail of things to come from now until eternity - so, why would he play along? Is God’s omniscience the future foretelling kind of all knowing, or is it more about His intimate knowledge of a man’s heart, his thoughts, his genetic and spiritual makeup and the laws of creation? So, was it impossible for Job to fail because his future was final, or, did Job’s God-given free will leave a .0000000000000001% chance that God would be surprised one way or the other? God told Satan don’t kill him. Hmmm, that pretty much sounds like a fail-safe to me.

I for one would really like to think God can be motivated and impressed by us, or disappointed by us - all while loving us fully and completely the same no matter what. I think there are plenty more examples in the Word that give me cause to believe it’s true. And if it is so - it would absolutely make my eternity to meet God and find Him pleasantly surprised; to hear Him say,”Wow, Carolyn, you took what I gave you and have returned to me more beautiful than I had imagined. Well done.” True or not, thinking such motivates me all the more to go out and get busy… cause I don’t think I’ve quite impressed Him yet. But I am now, more than ever, determined. What about you?

More random thoughts abound… but I’ll stop stuffing your colanders for now. (you’re welcome)
