10 cool things i’ve done so far this week

  1. today i helped a lady from honduras who knew very little english. i found out what she needed (food), gave her directions to the church (much more than a straight line), told her what time she should come (and why), met her when she arrived and had a nice long conversation with her (learned all about her job, her family far away, her struggles in america and her endeavors to learn english at a local community college), helped her get some groceries from our food pantry for her family living with her, gave her a hug and sent her smiling on her way with enough food for another couple of weeks. (ok - that was a really long sentence.) i was surprised at how much i remembered of my 5 years of spanish. i was surprised at how much i had forgotten of my 5 years of spanish. i really need to finish learning this language. political and immigration issues aside…. i really have a heart for the latin community.
  2. pb, abs and i had the first creative meeting of the year for our next two series. man, i really love those meetings.
  3. practiced my didge. circular breathing is really hard to get.
  4. watched biggest loser and american idol at the same time. reality tv at it’s best.
  5. saw apple’s newest stroke of genius. man that thing is sleek. i don’t want one (i still want the other) - but it’s cool none the less. looking forward to updating my iphone tomorrow.
  6. listened to pastor ron lay out a huge dream before the whole church for the rock. one significant part pertained to my particular area of ministry. i almost shouted amen all the way from the booth. oh, wait - i think i really did. we all did. my team was so excited. i love my team. it’s a good dream.
  7. played a killer game of uno with my boys. honestly… i think we take that game a little too seriously.
  8. had a 20 hour date with my honey thanks to eric and mel who let cam stay over and hang out with joe. mmm, hmmmmm.
  9. had a work related conversation that stretched me instantly… and will stretch me for a good while to come, i’m sure. it has something to do with #6 and this.
  10. started a new book called visioneering by andy stanley. (i know - i have about 4 others i am in the middle of… just let me do it my way. a.d.d. works if you just go with it sometimes). no, really - it’s our new staff study. looking forward to it.

bonus cool fact:
one totally unknown fact about me (my honey doesn’t even realize this): i have always organized the clothes in my closet in “roy g. biv” order. in fact, i do it with other things like uno cards and colored pencils. it’s a silent sickness. now you all know.

well, there you go. and, it’s only tuesday!!!!! :-D

dream on

it has been an amazing week. last sunday was the kickoff for our first series of the year… dream on. pastor ron brought it - tie-less. love it when pastor ron comes casual. it feels like i’m listening to dad.

i am surrounded by people who daily discipline themselves to look past what they see in the natural to the dreams god has placed in their hearts. i know this because i live my life beside them - i see them do it every day. this week i have heard several accounts of long awaited dreams coming true. one friend in particular was sharing with me a dream that was becoming a reality in their life. they suddenly got quiet and just couldn’t talk. i saw all over their countenance straight down into the depths of their heart… they didn’t have to say another word. we’re talking BIG HUGE UBER dreams. god dreams. my heart lept for them.

i truly believe this is just the tip of the iceberg for this year. i fully expect to encounter many more speechless people in 2008. i am provoked and excited. and i am determined now more than ever to choose god’s perspective over my own. the dreams god has given me exceed my current resources and skill set exponentially. but i keep hearing over and over in my spirit god urging me to rest in him, seek wisdom and just do what it know. i am at peace, really humbled and highly expectant… and, i’m ready to be stretched - - again.

pastor b did an awesome job on this video last sunday. read more about some of our dreams at the rock. we have an amazing group of writers in our church. more and more of them are starting to blog. check out these posts…

conisong: moving forward
hbomb: welcome to hollywood, what’s your dream?
mills: new year’s resolutions
pastorb: sunday night download

oh yeah, you can listen to the message here. and, you can subscribe to the rock podcast in itunes by clicking here.

so, what are your dreams?

2007… a year of blogging

2007 blog stats

ok, i only installed analytics in may (i’ve had foolishnotions since ‘05.  i know - tisk, tisk).  it’s ok - not missing anything.  i’m sure 05 through last may looks pretty much the same.  so, can you tell when i really got serious about blogging?

top 10 posts for 2007:

  1. a most awesome and amazing email
not sure how i feel about the fact that my top post of 2007 was an email that i didn’t write.  thanks, don!!!!  (ok, it’s secretly one of my favorites too.)  btw - the writer of this awesome and amazing email is blogless. i think you all should go over and apply some peer pressure to his wife’s blog.  i’m telling you it will be worth the effort if you succeed.  i have read his other writings and he definitely should have a blog.
  2. residents?
evidently a lot of people have wasps in their homes.  i find this a little disturbing.
  3. newsflash: wilmington gets october snow
    great pic of linds
  4. so — are you ready?
    i like this one too.
  5. i’m curious… do you comment on strangers’ blogs?
i was so nervous to write this post.  but am sooooo glad i did.  it really made a difference about how i blog and follow other’s blogs.  i was really struggling with the comment aspect.  thank you to all who chimed in.  if you didn’t before - go leave me your 2 cents.
  6. am i really going to do this?
one of my favorite moments this year at church.  i’m soooo glad there are no pics. :-D
  7. ka boom!
    good times!
  8. spreading the love - - my favorite wordpress plugins
spammers love this one.  had to turn comments off.  good list.
  9. meet they lymans… and friends
oh, yeah.  i need to do this again.  haven’t been venturing out of the booth enough.  note to self… it’s about the people not the buttons.  got it.
  10. rember?
some of my favorite series art from 2007.  i need to post more of these too.

thanks for reading and commenting.  you guys are awesome!  for you closet readers (i know i have some - california and virginia, who are you? hmmmm…), throw me a comment :-D !  i love it when i get to meet someone new.

let’s make 2008… great!

heavens before stars, light before sun & chickens definitely before eggs

in may we will be putting on our annual production at glory academy of fine arts. i’m very excited about our theme this year - it’s, creation. what amazing visual possibilties. so, i have been trying to prepare myself to wrap my brain around it graphically by really reading the story carefully - picturing it again with mind wide open.

so, did you ever notice that god created the heavens and the earth in the beginning, light on the first day, but didn’t create the sun, moon & stars until the 4th day? it says there was day and night on the first 3 days, too. (he must have had the clapper, I guess… just kidding - don’t go get all mad at me.)

and, i had always assumed “creating the heavens” meant the universe. but without a solar system… hmmm. so, was the heaven he created on the first day the heaven we look forward to? and, is there more than one? it does say heavens.

it’s amazing what you pick up on when you really slow down and think about what you’re reading. makes me wonder how much more of the bible i have just breezed over, neglecting to fully absorb it.

i was really only after a little “creative inspiration”, not a whole theological debate.

(btw - chicken comes before the egg. after reading it closely, i’m sure of it now.)
