20th anniversary celebration - friday night

this week has been nothing less than amazing. it was the 20th anniversary celebration for the rock and the day that marked the beginning of pastor bryan’s transition to senior pastor. it was full… i worked long and hard hours to get things done. but it was so worth it.

when we started planning the weekend we anticipated having a lot of out of town guests and wanted to plan a special friday evening event to get together with family and have fun. when we decided on a talent show i was quietly skeptical. would people come? would people want to participate? i didn’t know.

so, a week ago i took a look at the list. It included, a flutist playing the theme from “pink panther”, one christian metal band, a cello, the supremes, a harmonica/blues band, the song “you lift me up”… and a bunch more. we actually ended up having a waiting list. some participants i knew well and could imagine what to expect but the majority would be new to me. one thing was for sure - it would be a memorable night one way or another. :)

now, i’ve always known we have had extraordinarily talented people in our church, but i was blown away. we followed up klee’s rock band, “carry the wounded“, with the cello. it was hilarious. don and matthew, our mc’s, remarked that there’s always room for more cello… [har, har]. in the end barbara miller’s lip syncing supremes won by the highest applause reading on our dB meter. the big prize, a gift card to mayfaire. carry the wounded came in second, and 2 or our young people tied for third… mckinnly who did an awesome stand up comedy routine and audry who blew us away with “you lift me up” (which, btw, she only had one day of preparation with the actual track).

everyone did a great job. it was a really fun night. i was running sound, so i didn’t take any pics. but pb shared some of his with me… [tnx pb.]
